This is such a good poem! Don't you agree?
I love this poem
Survivor69
My husband always recited it to our children at Halloween !
My brother actually wrote this poem for his 10th grade creative writing class many, many years ago.
Unknown, that's amazing !
Wonderful to hear from you and thankful for your Brother's talents !
Is your brother tyler rager? This poem is as old as dirt. My dad used to tell us this one in the early 80's.
Yeah, no...this poem is from at least the 19th century and was written as a study in "nonsense verse" and opposites. There have been multiple variations over the decades, but its origin has been traced back to the Victorian Era so far.
My dad told it to me in the early 70's and had been reciting it since his childhood in the 40's. Research says early 19th century is the first recording of at least one of its verses. Unknown's brother may have been guilty of plagiarism.
I love this poem. My son had to learn it in 6th grade (he is now 36) & of course I had to learn it too! To this day this poem will just pop into my head, & stay there for a few days! But I love it, so I don't really mind.
Anonymous,
I agree, it's addictive !
I learned part of this poem when in was I. High school in the early 1960s . So over 60 years ago . Did not know the rest existed.
If I am 65, and I knew this poem as a small child, how is it possible Tyler Rager wrote it. He is 54, which means he must have written it as a fetus.
This poem has been around in some variation or another since the 13th century.
