Paisley's Chair *** Refinished Yard Sale Find***

 CLICK  the image to enlarge

Finding the right color of paint for the chair was easy. On a trip to Lowe's with my Husband we walked past the Valspar paint and I saw the pretty sample jars of paint...
CLICK the jar of paint to see Lowe's selection.....some pretty colors !
***NOTE***
When using the paint, pour the paint into another container.
If you paint out to the jar paint gets on the rim and the lid
 won't fit. I didn't use 1/3 of the jar.

Designing the right graphic to decoupage onto the chair was my next challenge.....

***NOTE***
if you would like me create a personalized graphic for decoupage (downloadable)
PLEASE contact me
I have used this little fairy in a tea cup in some of my designs.....her colors and roses were just the look I wanted to create..
I printed my graphic on tracing paper. If you've used tracing paper you know it's flimsy, so first I sprayed a piece of card stock with  Krylon Easy-Tack Repositionable Adhesive 7020
Carefully laid the tracing paper on the tacky card stock....printed.
When I cut out the graphic I left it on the card stock. As I got ready to apply the decoupage, I pealed it off the card stock. This worked really good.

After the decoupage was done, I gave it time to dry and  added an antique glaze .

The Chalk Painted Round Table

After months of falling in love with the  pins of Chalk Painted Furniture
I couldn't resist any longer....
I had to try  it...

On my weekly yard sale shopping spree I found this cute
little round table....the perfect victim for
my experiment

The table was in good shape with the exception the previous owner
had attempted to make it shabby chic with a light coat
of  flat pink spray paint.
I did sand the top and legs smooth.
There was not a lot of  dark wood showing through
so I decided to keep the finish solid.

I used a flat linen white ceiling paint and added some color using the
wall paint you see.
I only mixed 1 cup of the chalk paint recipe and still have over half left.

Chalk-Paint-Recipe--Calcium-Carbonate
I used Plaster of Paris instead  of calcium carbonate
for those of you who have forgotten...calcium carbonate is baking soda

Now that it's finished I think I could have added a bit more color,
but I still love it.
The technique is addicting and I certainly know why everyone is in love with it
and does it.  I'll be doing a lot more pieces, it's so easy and rewarding.
To antique it I used  Valspar Tintable Glaze mixed with some Burnt Umber
water based craft paint I had.
I mixed a baby food jar half full and had plenty.

For the top, I decoupaged a rose picture I've used for several graphic projects.

I wanted the rose to have a gold-tone to match my paint, so I changed the color of it
and enlarged it.
In the picture I have applied a  thick coat of decoupage glaze. I'll rub it down with steel wool in
about a week and give it a coat of satin polyurethane, then add a glass top

.
The paste wax was another new experience for me. Wow....this stuff is great for your wood furniture, stair cases, floors, cabinets and paneling. I'ts laborious and time-consuming but so much better than spray furniture polish.

Paint the top of an old table

This is probably my favorite piece of furniture I've ever re-done.
At the time, all the furniture in my home was Cherry or Mahogany. I still prefer the beautiful dark rich color. I'M NOT AN OAK KIND OF LADY.
I found this little table at a second hand store.

It was in really good condition and I really didn't want to change much about it. The top section is constructed of many layers of veneer, so I opted to only paint the top.

I was so pleased with the result it's remained in every home with me  since it was done in 2004.
First I painted the background black. I wanted to use golds, dark reds and muted greens.I chose to let as much of the black show through for the dramatic effect......accomplished !

I took it to a glass shop and had them cut a piece of glass 1/4 in. thick to fit the shape of the top.

The glass finishes the table and gives the painting protection even though I put several coats of polyurethane over the painting.

The little table I found at a yard sale

I found this little half table last fall while at a yard sale. Seems grey is my color of choice these days......
_________________________________________________________________________

I actually used a grey spray paint to paint it. I did have to sand it as it had been painted white and was in pretty rough shape.
To accent the legs I used black craft paint then went over the black with silver PLAD craft enamel with flat artist brush.

I decided to add this pair of wooden appliques I had.
. I sanded the appliques  then painted them with the black , then a heavy accent of the silver.
I didn't nail them on as they are tiny and delicate. I used a very thin coat of E6000 glue. It would have been better to have applied the applique before spraying it, but they were an afterthought and it is what it is. I don't anticipate any rough treatment as it sets in the hall away from traffic.

For the top I tore small pieces of brown craft paper into about 3 inch pieces of all shapes and decoupaged to the top, covering the entire top.

..................................................................................................................................

Over the decoupaged brown craft paper I decoupaged  this small bouquet of flowers and this saying  of faith I  printed on craft paper
.After the decoupaged table had dried  a week I finished it with a three coats of satin polyurethane

It really is pretty and the decoupaged top looks three dimensional
